| College is an important period for a person to transition from campus to society.It is also a critical period for individuals to focus on exploring career issues.It is an important task in this stage to form career orientation and then to choose a specific career.The correct choice of career is not only related to individual career development,but also vital to our society and country.Only by forming a correct career view and making appropriate career choice can college students make full use of their talents and make great contributions to the development of the country and society.Vocational self-concept refers to a person’s understanding of various selfqualities related to his or her career.Only on the premise of having a clear vocational self-concept can a person find his or her own career positioning and choose the most suitable career.Early vocational self-concept in the west is a valued field of study,but there is a big difference between western and Chinese cultural and social background,so many of their conclusions,like the tendency,development characteristics,influential factors and so on,of college students’ vocational selfconcept are not suitable for direct promotion in China,at the same time for domestic college students vocational self-concept research started late,and mostly focused on the relationship between occupational self-concept and other occupational traits,however the characteristics of a development stage of vocational self-concept is seldom involved.Based on a lot of reading relevant literatures and combining with previous studies on the vocational self-concept,using grounded theory and questionnaire method,this study establish the development model of college students’ vocational self-concept.In the questionnaire research,500 college students were measured with the "College Students’ Vocational Self-concept Questionnaire".According to the research,the dimensions of vocational self-concept rank the scores from high to low are: vocational goal,vocational external,vocational character,vocational network resource,vocational interest and vocational information.Gender,grade,family location,internship experience,parents’ education level and other factors are related to the score of occupational self-concept.In the grounded theory research,the data were obtained through one-to-one semi-structured interviews with 13 college students,and the materials were analyzed with the procedural grounded theory.According to the research,the college students’ vocational self-concept includes five components: career interest,career ability,career personality,career resources,and career values.Career values are the core component.The factors influencing college students’ vocational self-concept is different for different individuals,but can be sum up unique factors and universal factors.Unique factors including experience,education and significant other;universal factors including media and networks,social status and development direction,environment and culture.The vocational self-concept develops and on account of the interaction of unique and universal factors,which shows that the career values gradually change from interest and personality orientation to ability and resource orientation,and make the vocational behavior consistent with the current vocational self-concept. |
