This is a practice report on the interpreting task of the threeweek online streaming training class on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission(MTCT)of AIDS,syphilis,and hepatitis B in developing countries.This report consists of four parts: task description,task preparation,case analysis,and reflection.Based on the multimodal discourse analysis and the synthetic theoretical framework on multimodal discourse analysis proposed by Zhang Delu,this practice report summarizes the characteristics of the online training class interpreting as online streaming interpreting and multimodal class interpreting from the multimodal perspective.With the two characteristics,this report concludes with eight corresponding interpreting techniques under three strategies for three purposes of coping contingencies,improving rendering,and enlivening the class atmosphere are put forward.For contingency coping,conversion between different modalities with proposed techniques of summarization and sentence contraction is necessary.For rendering improvement,combination of different modalities represents a proper strategy with suggested techniques of proper deletion,restructuring,proper supplementation and direct reference.To enliven the class atmosphere,coordination between different modalities with interpreting techniques of exaggeration and assistance of body language is also a feasible solution.It is expected that this report will help student interpreters better understand the characteristics of online streaming class interpreting and cultivate their awareness of multi-modal information input in interpreting practice and improve the quality of their interpreting performance. |
