With the outbreak of the corona virus in the whole world, online interpreting may become part of the new normal for this industry in the future. Therefore, the study of online interpreting is of great practical significance. This report is based on the simulated consecutive interpreting of T4 Conference: The New Normal: Education Post COVID-19.After a discourse analysis of the transcript, the author summarized the following four linguistic features that cause difficulties in interpreting:information loss, expression redundancy, structural looseness and logical confusion.A review of the literature has found that the theme-rheme theory together with the thematic progression pattern focuses on the internal structure of the sentences as well as the cohesion and coherence of the sentences and has been applied in former translation and interpreting practice. Therefore, this theory is used to provide proper solutions for the above-mentioned problems.Under its guidance, interpreting techniques such as omitting, supplementing, abstracting and compressing are adopted flexibly to the effect of a considerably improved translation quality.Besides, the interpreting rate of the major information is obviously improved and the pressure on the interpreter in the process is reduced accordingly.
