This report selects the Report on the Work of Guilin Municipal Government in2021 as the translation text,with about 18000 Chinese characters.It mainly introduces the development achievements of Guilin in the past five years,as well as the goals and tasks of the next five years.The Report on the Work of Guilin Municipal Government in 2021(hereinafter referred to as the “ RWG ”)is characterized by the frequent use of numerical acronyms,vocabulary with Chinese characteristics,non-subject sentences,long difficult sentences,parallel sentences and other text features.The author has verified that this RWG has not yet been translated into English,and hopes that by translating it into English,it can help foreign tourists and international friends who are concerned about Guilin to better understand the development of Guilin.Guided by the Skopos Theory put forward by Hans Vermeer,the translator uses case analysis to demonstrate the feasibility of various translation skills guided by the translation rules of “ Skopos,Coherence and Fidelity ” in the English translation of the RWG.When translating from Chinese to English,translators can flexibly adopt a combination of domestication and foreignization translation strategies.Depending on different situations,translators can use flexible and diverse translation skills such as literal translation,literal translation plus annotation,free translation,conversion,omission,addition and division to ensure that the English translation is faithful to the original text,making the translation readable,and allowing the target readers to quickly and accurately understand and accept the translation,so as to achieve the purpose of external communication and publicity.After this translation practice,the translator finds that the Skopos Theory has a good guiding role in the English translation of political documents such as the RWG,and summarize the shortcomings and suggestions in this translation practice,hoping to provide reference and inspiration for translators of such texts.
