ObjectiveIn order to identify the ageist behaviors of nursing students at an early stage, enrich the assessment tools of ageism in China, and make up for the deficiencies in behavioral measurement in ageist research in China, the Relating to Old People Evaluation(ROPE)scale was introduced, and was revised in Chinese and tested for reliability to form a localized scale suitable for use by nursing students in China. The Chinese version of the ROPE scale was preliminary applied to nursing students in China to investigate the current situation of ageist behaviors among nursing students and to explore the main factors influencing ageist behaviors,so as to provide a theoretical basis for the subsequent rational use of the scale and the development of intervention programs to promote the realization of active aging in China.Method1.Consult the domestic and international literature review related to ageism, summarized the ageist concepts, theoretical framework, and assessment tools, and selected the ROPE scale.2.Obtained the scale authorization of Professor Cherry, conducted cross-cultural debugging of the scale under the guidance of Brislin translation model, and compiled the Chinese version of the first draft of the ROPE scale after being reviewed by the expert group and the original author.Convenience sampled 351 nursing students from3 universities in Zhejiang Province to fill in the general information questionnaire and the Chinese version of the first draft of the ROPE scale. Two weeks later,40 students were randomly selected to fill in the first draft again, complete the reliability and validity test of the scale, and determine the Chinese version of ROPE scale. The reliability and validity tests of the scale include the project analysis(critical ratio and correlation coefficient method),content validity, structure validity(exploratory factor analysis),internal consistency reliability(Cronbach’s α coefficient,test-retest and split-half reliability).3.Convenience sampled 332 nursing students from 3 universities in Zhejiang Province to fill in the general information questionnaire, selecting confirmatory factors analysis and internal consistency analysis to test the structural rationality and internal consistency of the ROPE scale, and the final draft was formed.4.In this study,Convenience sampled 341 nursing students at 3 universities in Zhejiang Province.Apply the Chinese version of the ROPE scale, combined with the general information questionnaire,Fraboni Scale of Ageism,Facts of Aging Quiz,Anxiety about Aging to investigate the status quo and influencing factors of ageist behavior among nursing students.Use SPSS25.0 software analyze data, use X±S to describe the status quo of ageist behavior, use t-test,monofactor analysis of variance, correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression to discuss the influencing factors of ageist behavior.Result1.The Chinese version of the ROPE scale’s Item-Content Validity Index was0.800 ~ 1.000,and the average of all I-CVIs was 0.940.In the project analysis, critical ratio and correlation coefficient method both showed that item 13 had a low degree of discrimination against the subjects, the item 13 was deleted,so the remaining items were eligible for factor analysis. After three exploration factor analysis, the item 10 and item 15(load less than 0.400)were deleted, identify two factors and 17 entries. The two factors were named positive discrimination behavior and negative discrimination behavior respectively, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 40.660%.2.Under confirmatory factor analysis, all indexes of model fit of ROPE scale were within the ideal indexes.3.The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the Chinese version of ROPE scale was0.772,the test-retest reliability was 0.952.The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the positive discrimination behavior subscale was 0.762;the split-half reliability was 0.751,0.751 and 0.749;the test-retest reliability was 0.918.The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the negative discrimination behavior subscale was 0.889;the split-half reliability was0.874,0.876 and 0.849;the test-retest reliability was 0.972.4.The positive ageism behavior of nursing students was at the upper medium level, with an average of 0.570±0.170 points, while the negative ageism behavior was at the lower level, with a median of 0.140 points. After monofactor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis,it can be seen that there are significant differences in the scores of nursing students’ ageist behaviors in terms of gender, education level, frequency of contact with the elderly, quality of contact with the elderly, aging knowledge, ageism and aging anxiety(P < 0.050).Conclusion1.The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of ROPE scale is good both in the whole and in each dimension, which can be used as a reference tool for the ageist behavior of nursing students.2.The positive ageism behavior of nursing students was above the middle level, while the negative ageism behavior was lower than the middle level. All nursing students showed at least one ageism behavior.3.The factors influencing positive ageist behavior were frequency and quality of contact with relatives(non-relatives),aging knowledge, ageism, aging anxiety. There is a positive correlation between the frequency of contact with relatives(non-relatives),quality of contact with relatives(non-relatives),aging knowledge and positive ageist behavior; There is a negative correlation between ageism, aging anxiety and positive ageist behavior.4.The factors influencing negative ageist behavior include gender, education level, frequency and quality of contact with relatives(non-relatives),aging knowledge, ageism, aging anxiety;Men have more negative ageist behaviors than women. The negative ageism behavior of nursing students with junior college degree was more than that of nursing students with undergraduate degree. There is a negative correlation between the frequency of contact with relatives, quality of contact with relatives, aging knowledge and negative ageism behavior. There is a positive correlation between ageism, aging anxiety, frequency of contact with non-relatives and negative ageist behavior.
