Objectives:To investigate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Emotional Intelligence Scale(EIS)among clinical junior nurses. On this basis, describing the present condition and analyzing the influencing factors of emotional intelligence among clinical junior nurses,in order to provide theoretical evidence for nursing managers in developing the targeted interventions of emotional intelligence. Methods:This study was divided into two parts:the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of EIS and the application of the scale.1.863 clinical junior nurses were selected by convenience sampling in the 2 3-A-grade general hospitals and 1 2-A-grade general hospital of Jiangsu Province. The Chinese version of EIS was conducted to 442 clinical junior nurses for exploratory factor analysis. Moreover, confirmatory factor analysis was administered on 421 clinical junior nurses.Data was analyzed by SPSS 19.0 and AMOS22.0 software.2.377 clinical junior nurses were selected by convenience sampling in the 3-A-grade general hospital of Jiangsu Province. They were measured by social demographic questionnaire and emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurse scale.SPSS 19.0 was used to conduct statistical analysis. The statistic methods included descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test,one-way analysis of variance,LSD and multiple regression.Results:1.Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of EIS(1)The Chinese version of EIS after amended of 4 factors and 16 items was identified by using exploratory factor analysis. The four dimensions were named "emotional self-perception","emotional expression","others emotional assessment" and "emotional utilization".The cumulative contribution of variance was 58.665%.Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the fitness of the model was perfect(x2/df=1.627,GFI=0.918,AGFI=0.891,CFI=0.934,RMSEA=0.049).(2)The internal consistency Cronbach's ? coefficient was 0.826 and the Cronbach's a coefficient of each factor were 0.605?0.775.Test-retest reliability as ICC calculation was 0.913.(3)Content validity index was 0.90.The Chinese version of EIS after amended indicated good construct validity with statistically significant correlations with the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale(ICC=0.83).Significant negative correlation was observed between the new scale and the Self-Rated Depression Scale total score(r=-0.37,P<0.01).2.Current situation of emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurses in a hospital(1)The total scores of emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurses was(3.86±0.39),and the four dimension scores range from high to low:emotional self-perception(3.99±0.41),emotional expression(3.89±0.50),emotional utilization(3.78±0.51)and others emotional assessment(3.47±0.57).(2)There were statistically different for the scores of emotional intelligence among clinical junior nurses from different gender, first degree, family support and night job(P<0.05).(3)The results of multivariate analysis showed that family support and night job explained 7.6%of the total variance in emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurses.Conclusions:1.The Chinese version of EIS was proved to be reliable and valid after amended. It can be used to effectively assess the emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurses.2.The emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurses in a hospital was at a general level.Dimensions development was not balanced.Gender, first degree, family support and night job were the influential factor for their emotional intelligence.According to influencing factors, nursing supervisor could take effective interventions to promote all-round development of emotional intelligence of clinical junior nurse.
