Research On The Reliability And Validity Of Chinese Version Fall Risk Assessment Scale For The Elderly

ObjectiveThe study aimed to translate the Falls Risk Assessment Scale for the Elderly(FRASE)into Chinese,and to test the reliability,validity and application effect of the scale in the Chinese context,providing a new reference for assessment,intervention and promoent of the fall risk assessment of the Chinese elderly..MethodsA cross-sectional methodological design was used to conduct this study.The sample consisted of 620 older people who were from urban communities(410)and hospitals(210)collected by a demographic questionnaire,the Falls Risk Assessment Scale for the Elderly(FRASE)and the modified Survey of Activities and Fear of Falling in the Elderly(m SAFFE)and the reliability,validity and effect factors were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS21.0.Results1.620 cases were consulted,the effective cases were 600,and the effective recovery rate was 96.77%.2.Reliability The Cronbach's ? of the Chinese version FRASE was 0.796 and the split-half Cronbach's ? was 0.694.The item-to-total correlation varied between 0.503 to 0.785(P < 0.05).The test-retest reliability intra-class correlation coefficients(ICC)of the total scores of FRASE was 0.924.All these explained that the scale had good internal consistency and stability.3.Validity The item content validity indexes were from 0.816 to 1.00,S-CVI/UA was 0.851 and S-CVI/Ave was 0.922.Construct validity was demonstrated in an exploratory factor analysis with a three-factor solution,explaining 62.528% of the variance.The three-factor solution of FRASE had a good fit(GFI=0.979,AGFI=0.969,RMR=0.022,RMSEA=0.019 and x~2/df =1.207).The total scale score and fall or no fall,the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).The area under the receiver operator characteristic(ROC)curve for the cut-point of FRASE was 0.764,when the critical value is more than 7.5,the sensitivity of 76.6%,and the specificity was 65.3%.4.Application The result of the measurement of Chinese version of FRASE were that: high risk was 13.5%,and low risk was 50.5%.Old age,female,chronic diseases,fall history and aid were the risk factors of the fall risk.Conclusions This first testing of the FRASE indicates sufficient evidence for reliability and validity.And it can be used as an evaluating instrument in older people of China.
