| Since the reform and opening-up,the equipment manufacturing industry has changed from small to large,and a sound industrial system has formed.However,the problem of being large rather than strong has become increasingly prominent.Therefore,it is urgent to improve quality and transformation and upgrading.As an emerging industry that provides intellectual services,the science and technology service industry rooted in the externalization of internal services in the manufacturing sector.In the process of the agglomeration of the technology service industry,the connection between the technology service industry and the equipment manufacturing industry has become increasingly close,which provides support for the development of equipment manufacturing industry.Therefore,we examned the impact of the agglomeration of science and technology service industry on the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry,and expored the mechanism behind such a link.It has important theoretical and practical significance for accelerating the agglomeration of science and technology service industry and building a powerful equipment manufacturing country.The transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry is a process of transformation from low-end,low-value-added,low-efficiency,and low-tech to high-end,high-value-added,high-efficiency,and high-tech.First,from the entire production process of the transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry,we analyze the general mechanism by which the agglomeration of the the science and technology service industry affects the transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry.The agglomeration of science and technology service industry provides various science and technology services for the creation stage of R&D achievements,the transformation stage of scientific and technological achievements,and the stage of equipment feedback improvement of the equipment manufacturing industry,and promotes the transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry.At the same time,this study proposes four intermediary mechanisms through which the agglomeration of the science and technology industry affects the transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry.Firstly,through the competitive effect,increasing the competitive pressure to reduce the price of service or improve the quality of service,therefore driving up the added value of the equipment manufacturing industry.Secondly,through the effect of economies of scale,gathering a large number of production factors,infrastructure and other resources,during the forming period and growing period of agglomeration scale development,it has different impacts on the production efficiency of equipment manufacturing industry.Third,through the spillover effect of knowledge and technology,shorting the geographical distance of related enterprises to promote the cross-industry flow of new knowledge and technology,therefore improving the technical level of the equipment manufacturing industry.Fourth,through the human capital effect,attracting high-quality talents and intensify the competition to promote the accumulation of human capital,therefore improving the technical level of the equipment manufacturing industry.In this study,the panel data of 30 different provinces of China from 2004 to 2019 are included,the dynamic panel data model estimated is constructed,and the system GMM estimation method is used to empirically examine the overall mechanism of the agglomeration of science and technology service industry on the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry.The results show that the agglomeration of science and technology service industry plays an important role in the whole production process of the equipment manufacturing industry,and has a positve role in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry.With the increasing agglomeration of science and technology service industry,the transformation and upgrading level of equipment manufacturing industry has been continuously improved.At the same time,from four aspects of agglomeration of science and technology service industry,test its mediating effect on the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry through the spillover effect of knowledge and technology,competition effect and human capital effect.In addition,these effect are ranked in descending order.However,due to the constraints of small scale of agglomeration in China’s science and technology service industry,the scale economies effect on the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry cannot be effectively played.Based on the above empirical conclusions and analysis,this study puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions to strengthen the agglomeration of science and technology service industry,and further promote the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry.Such as optimizing business environment,gathering science and technology service organizations,expanding the brand of the organization,consolidating the strength of science and technology services,improving the training system,accumulating scientific and technological service personnel. |
