Henan’s agricultural development conditions are unique,but the agricultural development model that relies excessively on chemical factor inputs has also led to a series of outstanding problems such as tightening resource constraints and increasing environmental pollution.In the critical period of high-quality green transformation of agriculture,it is important to scientifically measure Henan’s agricultural eco-efficiency and explore ways to improve efficiency to strengthen the foundation of China’s agriculture and promote the transformation of Henan’s agricultural development mode.In this paper,the actual development of Henan agriculture is described from the socio-economic resources,natural resource endowment,agricultural ecological environment and pollution emission status.Based on this,firstly,the DEA-Super SBM model with non-expected output is applied to measure the agricultural eco-efficiency in Henan Province from 2010 to 2020 in different dimensions,such as provincial,regional and municipal,and decompose it in order to observe the effects of pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency on agricultural eco-efficiency.Secondly,measuring the decomposition of the ML index of total factor productivity across locations and exploring the impact of the four indices PEC,SEC,PTC and STC on total factor productivity.Thirdly,the input-output redundancy of agro-ecological efficiency in Henan Province is analysed to explore the ways to improve efficiency.Fourthly,the convergence trend of agricultural eco-efficiency in Henan is examined by applying various convergence methods to determine its future development trend.Fifthly,the factors influencing agricultural eco-efficiency are analyzed.Finally,suggestions for improving efficiency are given according to the level of agricultural eco-efficiency and efficiency loss in Henan.Based on the above research,the main conclusions and recommendations of this paper are as follows:(1)Henan’s agricultural eco-efficiency is at a medium level,with more room for improvement,and a declining trend during the study period,mainly constrained by higher redundancy of mechanical inputs,fertilizer inputs,and carbon emissions;from the four major regions of the province,the agricultural eco-efficiency of southwest Henan is optimal,and only Sanmenxia is always at the effective frontier during the study period.(2)Total factor productivity in Henan cities from 2010 to 2020 is on the rise,and the changes in the increase or decrease of the four indices of PEC,SEC,PTC,and STC directly affect the growth of total factor productivity.(3)There is no σconvergence,exists absolute β-convergence,conditional β-convergence;while the two major clubs in the northern and eastern regions of Henan possess club convergence characteristics.(4)Planting structure,industrial structure and agricultural economic development level have positive effects on agro-ecological efficiency;urbanization rate and agricultural machinery density have negative effects on agro-ecological efficiency;fertilizer application intensity and financial support for agriculture do not have significant effects on agro-ecological efficiency.(5)To improve the agricultural ecoefficiency in Henan Province,it is necessary to optimize factor inputs,promote regional technology sharing,narrow regional disparities,innovate agricultural eco-models,and improve agricultural subsidy policies.
