| Since the beginning of the 21 st century,major epidemics such as SARS and COVID-19 have spread throughout China and the world,and their impact on people has been deepening.To do a good job in reporting sudden public health events is not only related to the healthy development of the society,but also affects the promotion of media credibility.This study takes People’s Daily as the research object,and based on the framework theory and gatekeeper theory,To do a comparative study on the reports of "SARS" and "COVID-19" in People’s Daily.This study is divided into five parts.The first chapter introduces the research background and significance,and summarizes and analyzes the current research situation at home and abroad,and puts forward the research questions.The second part summarizes the general situation of the coverage of SARS and COVID-19 epidemics,and summarizes the guiding role of People’s Daily in the coverage of the epidemic in combination with the transmission characteristics of the coverage of the epidemic.In the third part,302 reports related to SARS and 507 reports related to the new coronavirus were selected as the research samples to conduct empirical analysis on the two epidemic reports from the aspects of content and form.On the basis of empirical analysis,the fourth part summarizes the People’s Daily’s epidemic report has the following progress :the information transparency has increased,more attention has been paid to creating positive public opinion and the audience’s reading preferences in the new media environment.However,it still has some shortcomings:lack of closerness of reports,lack of supervision by public opinion,monotonous layout,concentrated reporting genre,lagging early warning and inaccurate reporting.Through reflection on the existing problems,this paper summarizes the main reasons for People’s Daily :to adhere to the thinking of positive publicity and public opinion,lack of professionals in professional fields,and lag behind new media in timeliness.Finally,targeted at the problems mentioned above,the paper puts forward targeted strategies from the aspects of broadening the content of the report,optimizing the form of the report,improving the reporting strategy and speeding up the integration of new media.The study found that People’s Daily adheres to the mission of delivering information and guiding public opinion in its epidemic reports,and has improved its content and form in combination with the current communication environment,making its reports more in line with the reading habits of the current audience.However,under the impact of new media,People’s Daily’s reports on the epidemic are also faced with difficulties such as delayed early warning and timeliness needs to be improved.Based on the media environment,this paper puts forward reasonable suggestions to improve it,in order to further improve the reporting level of People’s Daily on sudden public health events. |
