The Yan'an period(1935-1948)was a critical stage when Mao Zedong Thought gradually matured and established a leadership position within the party.During this period,Mao Zedong was well known both domestically and internationally, and to a certain extent he was able to benefit from the interviews and reports of Western reporters such as Snow.Edgar Snow and the Western journalists who went to Yan'an to interview after that had the same identity, similar practice beliefs, and similar professional pressures and political environments. After overcoming the pressures of the external environment, they gradually wrote and presented the propositions and beliefs of the Communist Party of China in a gradual manner, and portrayed and constructed Mao Zedong's image as a leader. In the relevant reports surrounding Mao Zedong, both the exploration of Mao Zedong's appearance and personality characteristics,or the demonstration of Mao Zedong's internal theoretical cultivation, have completed the rewriting of the image of Mao Zedong's leader. These different aspects of image writing are spread more widely among domestic people and internationally through the dissemination of text, photos, documentaries and other media tools. The power of the individual may be limited, but the wisdom of the group cannot be ignored.Through the group of western journalists, explore the efforts they made to write Mao Zedong during the Yan'an period, and the presentation of Mao Zedong's image in different dimensions,to understand how Western journalists jointly promoted the spread of Mao Zedong's image as a leader. This is of great significance for our future external propaganda work and group research.
