A Study On The Social Network Of Journalists In The Period Of The Republic Of China:Construction,Characteristics And Motivation

The social network,constructed by the relationship between the individuals is flooded with information,status and other social capital.The power of individuals not only related to the amount of resources they possess but also closely related to their location in the network.Therefore,for the sake of gaining a greater advantage,the individuals must actively construct and expand their network,and meanwhile their opportunities and results are often influenced and restricted by the network structure.The network structure is constant in a certain period of time but inevitably changes with the historical environment in the long run.It promotes the communication between the insiders but prevents outsiders from participating.In the transition from the traditional literati to the modern liberal professions,journalists affected by the kinship and the geographical relationship actively construct a more complex social network which ensure and promote their development.This paper analyzes the construction,characteristics and motivation of journalists’ social network in the period of the Republic of China on the basis of theoretical analysis and historical information research.It finds out that the ascribed relational network is beneficial to the accumulation of knowledge,the acquisition of news and job.The achieved relational network by joining clubs,contributing and interviewing plays a positive role in increasing and accumulating knowledge,improving social status,finding jobs and exclusive news.The Industry predestined relationship maintained by professional group and informal activities promotes the cooperation,fraternity,information sharing and the improvement of professionalism.The complex social network under the driving of emotion and interest exhibits the characteristic of triadic closure,the feature of homogenization and the tendency of both competition and cooperation.
