The media image of journalists is mainly shaped by the journalists' interviewing, writing and reporting.During the Journalists' Day,the spotlight of the media focused on the journalists.Such a hot moment full of commemoration, celebration and thinking is a good opportunity for the journalists to shape their own media image. However, there has not been much research on the image of reporters in the Journalists' Day Discourse in the past, while the Journalists' Day of 2019 happens to be the 20th Journalists' Day since it was first officially established. The period of 20 years is enough for retrospection and summary, which has become a good opportunity to study this topic. This study defines "reporters" as journalists(such as editors, moderators, etc.)who carry out various propagation tasks on the news front in a broad sense.Referring to"People's Daily" as the research material, all relevant content published during the Journalists' Day from 2000 to 2019,including news reports, comments, speeches, etc, are included in the scope of the study in this paper. This study attempts to clarify the following issues:what kind of journalists'image does the Journalists' Day Discourse present;whether it has changed in the past 20 years;how the journalists' image is presented, what are its characteristics, and why it is so.This study uses a combination of quantification and qualitative analysis.Firstly, descriptive statistical analysis is performed on the selected valid samples.Secondly, jieba and wordcloud are applied to make statistics of word frequency of all the samples and also the samples of every year which we collect and make them visible. Finally, this study imports all the samples into Nvivo 12.0 qualitative analysis software, and further considers the above issues with the help of multiple coding and analysis. This study divides the main content into four parts. The first part is a basic quantitative analysis of the samples. The second part discusses the specific journalists' images presented in the samples. It mainly summarizes the positive image of the journalists from three dimensions:the role of the journalists, the professional spirit and the professionalism of the journalists. And it summarizes the negative image of journalists based on professional ethics and interview style of journalists. Then,it further compares the difference in the representation of the two types of images in the sample. The third part analyzes the diachronic characteristics of the image of the journalists.Studies have shown that the image of journalists in the past 20 years has its "changed" and"unchanged"."Changed" refers to the change of image of journalists in several specific years, for example,in 2001 and 2003,2008,2011,2012,2014 and 2016."Unchanged" is a consistent characteristic of the image of journalists, such as always having political color, always shouldering the historical mission and responsibility, always resonating with the times, etc. The fourth part is the attribution analysis of the journalists' image. The author believes that the forces of all parties in the real society have had varying degrees of influence on the shaping of the journalists' image, thereby further affecting its presentation in the"People's Daily".Hence, the author analyzes the influencing factors of the reporter's positive image and negative image from the perspectives of politics, market, technology, industry, and individual. The author believes that the journalists' image presented in the Journalists' Day discourse of the "People's Daily" is constructed selectively by the media, therefore in the end,the intention and significance of such construction are briefly analyzed.
