Research On The Counter Measures Taken By Amazon During The Covid-19 Pandemic

The current pandemic has greatly affected the entire globe.It will certainly be the most significant factor that has shaped people lives when history looks back at the year 2020,Amazon has managed to play a very important role in the pandemic retail and had a profound impact on the way that people have been dealing with living under the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.To understand better,how the company played such an important role,this thesis focuses on the management of the operations at the Amazon Company during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 and the problems that the company had to face during that period.The aim of the research paper is to make a detailed explanation and demonstration of the impact of decision making in an organization,specifically in the operation department and it's optimize it to get the best possible output.Moreover,the purpose of this work is to help companies to optimize better their operation department,as it is usually the key part of a company business strategy and help managers with a better understanding of the decision-making process and management in crisis period.To do so this thesis is broken down into five chapters following a case study like approach.In the first chapter,we are introducing the primary concepts and theories(operation management,supply chain management and decision making process)which makes the study basis to allow a better in-depth understanding of the terms and analysis brought up later in the research.Following that,the second chapter will be a presentation of the company prior to the Covid-19 pandemic followed by an analysis of the problems that the company experienced during the pandemic.The third chapter introduces us,the pandemic aside,to the main origins of the experienced problems,as we will later see that the pandemic just triggered the apparition of some of those problems and not creating them.The chapter four present us with the measures the company has taken to counter the problems raised at the end of the chapter two in addition of an in depth analysis of the taken measures,personal suggestion and corrections.Finally,the chapters five consist of the conclusion of our work.There is much research into the relationship between operation management and decision-making but we encounter very few research studies run to understand the decision making process in period of uncertainty.Therefore,this study represents an attempt to fill this gap,investigating the management of the operations inside the Amazon Company during the pandemic.
