Adolescents ’academic performance has always been a key issue in the sociology of education.Family, school, and society have an important impact on the learning of adolescents, but their mechanism of action is not yet clear. This article attempts to use the 2012 survey data of the China Family Tracking Survey(CHFS)to study the impact of parental rearing styles on adolescents ’academic performance and its mechanisms, especially the intermediary role of self-esteem in rearing styles and adolescents’ academic performance. The estimated results of the influence of parenting styles on adolescents ’academic performance show that: Parents’ parenting styles will significantly affect the children ’s language performance and mathematics performance.First, compared with authoritative parenting methods, survey children with parental parenting methods that are authoritarian and neglected are more likely to have poor language performance;survey children with parental parenting methods that are spoiled are more likely to have poor language performance. There is no significant difference in the probability of poor.Second, compared with authoritative parenting methods, the possibility that parents ’parenting methods are authoritarian, spoiled, and neglected students will have significantly higher math scores. The estimated result of the influence of self-esteem on young people’s academic performance shows that self-esteem also has a significant influence on young people’s academic performance.Research on the influence of parenting styles on adolescents’ self-esteem found that: first, under authoritative parenting methods, adolescents have the highest self-esteem scores, indicating that adolescents have the highest self-esteem level under authoritative parenting methods.Second, the parenting style of parents will significantly affect the self-esteem level of the surveyed children. The results of the analysis of the intermediary effect of parental rearing styles on self-esteem affects young people ’s academic performance: First,at a 10%significance level, parental rearing styles affect children ’s language performance through self-esteem,and the proportion of self-esteem to the overall effect reaches7.2 %.Second,self-esteem will be somewhere between the parental rearing style and adolescent math performance at a confidence level of 0.05.Self-esteem as an intermediary variable account for 65.18% of the overall effect. From the above research findings, the following suggestions are proposed for youth education: In the choice of parenting methods, authoritative parenting methods can be selected, which not only requires the learning of young people, but also gives more care and support to children;pay attention to the self-esteem of young people,Students with lower self-esteem levels pay more attention to improve the self-esteem level of young people;parents can pay attention to the education investment of young people,so as to obtain more educational resources.
