| With the continuous development of society and economy,the exchange between China and foreign countries has become more and more.Such a social environment requires more high-level talents.As an international communication language,English is increasingly valued.It can be found that there are many pages for students to read in the Yilin Edition English textbooks for primary schools.However,due to the small volume of the textbooks,the reading part can carry less content and variety,which cannot meet the needs of primary school students’ reading ability development.Therefore,it is particularly important to expand primary school English reading on the basis of English textbooks.English extended reading in primary schools has been widely studied and implemented because of its extensive coverage and diversified teaching methods.Extended reading teaching can not only train students’ comprehensive language ability,but also help them understand the excellent cultural knowledge at home and abroad,so as to broaden their horizons and form international consciousness.Through reading and combing the relevant materials,this research grasps the existing research results on English extended reading teaching in primary schools,and understands the current situation of English extended reading teaching in primary schools.This research mainly uses questionnaire survey method and interview method to investigate English reading teaching present situation of S primary school in L city from the five dimensions:teachers’ understanding of the role of English expanding reading teaching in primary schools,teachers’ design of teaching objectives for English expanding reading teaching in primary schools,teachers’ development and utilization of primary English expanding reading teaching resources,teachers’ choice and application of teaching methods and forms for English expanding reading teaching in primary schools and the content and form of English expanding reading teaching in primary schools’evaluation in primary schools to analysis and summarize the existing problems.It mainly includes that teachers’ awareness of the teaching value of extended reading is limited to supplementing in-class instruction,too much emphasis on students’ learning and memory of vocabulary and grammar,the lack of the suitable picture books resources for primary school students to read,expanding reading teaching method emphasizes text reading but lacks students’self-expression training,the one-sided emphasis on the teaching result in expanding reading teaching.Through the study of these problems and the combination of relevant educational theories,this research puts forward the reasons,suggestions and improvement strategies:Teachers should strengthen the study of the teaching contents of Yilin edition books and enhance their ability of English extended reading teaching;The teaching objectives should focus on enhancing students’ comprehensive language ability and humanistic quality.Enrich teaching resources and improve the teaching quality of extended reading teaching;Using a variety of teaching methods to improve the enthusiasm of students in teaching participation;The evaluation of extended reading teaching should embody development and pluralism. |
