In 2017,English Curriculum Criteria for Regular High School(2017 Edition)was officially promulgated.This curriculum standard has made many changes compared to the old edition.Subsequently,senior high school English textbooks changed based on the new curriculum standard were gradually put into use.Among them,senior high school English textbooks of the 2019 edition published by People’s Education Press are used in many provinces across China.In order to compare the similarities and differences between the reading materials of the new and old textbooks,and to make suggestions for the users and textbook writers,the researcher analyzes senior high school English textbooks of the two editions based on the textbook evaluation standard of Cunningsworth and the new curriculum standard.And the researcher adopts the internal evaluation and external evaluation method of Cheng Xiaotang.This research mainly includes the following aspects: internal evaluation of reading materials and external evaluation.In the study,the internal evaluation includes analysis of the reading texts,reading activities and reading strategies.External evaluation is conducted through interviewing teachers who have used the new and old textbooks,aiming to understand whether the new textbooks can better meet the needs of students and teachers in the process of using the textbooks.Finally,based on the changes in reading materials and teachers’ feedback,the researcher provides feasible suggestions for teachers on how to adapt to the new teaching materials and to further optimize the teaching materials.The conclusion shows that compared with the old textbooks,the new textbooks has more kinds of topics which are more interesting.And the ranges of genres in the new textbooks are wide,keeping up with the development of the society.The length of the reading passages in the new textbooks is more in line with the cognitive level of senior high school students.The grammar arrangement of the new textbooks is presented from easy to difficult,which accords with the students’ cognitive pattern and is beneficial to the students to learn grammar knowledge better.The activity in 2019 edition is more in line with the requirements of the view of English learning activity,which pays attention to the development of both low-level thinking and high-level thinking ability of students.And more reading strategies are provided in the new edition,which is beneficial for students to improve their reading ability.The research also proves that it is more convenient for teachers and students to use new textbooks.Finally,the researcher provides some suggestions for the teachers and textbook compilers. |
