| History is a record or narrative description of human activities in the past, and most of the time it is also a summary of the experience and lessons of the predecessors. To know the history of a country is not only a personal interest, but also a process of self-discovery,self-examination and self-improvement.As a partner country of "the Belt and Road Initiative",Montenegro has a rich historical and cultural heritage.Understanding its history can not only expand our knowledge and horizon, but also help us integrate with national policies.Translation is a kind of transformational-generative activity, which transforms a relatively unfamiliar expression into another acceptable expression(Chomsky,1957:4).The theory of functional equivalence was put forward by Nida,a famous American linguist and translator. He believed that the text should not be translated literally, and the translation need to achieve the functional equivalence between the target language and source language.During the process of translation, the translators should try their best to express the core meaning of the source text instead of translating word for word all the time.A History of Montenegro describes the historical process of Montenegro in detail, showing Montenegro to us in an intuitive and stereoscopic way.In the form of the text,A History of Montenegro belongs to the historical documentary text. Therefore, during the process of translation, the translator needs to completely and accurately express the core meaning of source text to the readers.Meanwhile, the translator cannot add any facts or events which do not exist in history.Under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this report is analyzed in lexical level, syntactic level and textual level.During the translation of source text, the translator can use the relevant translation methods or strategies reasonably such as amplification and omission,four-character structure, conversion of word classes in lexical level and make adjustments to the sentences by using retaining the original, passive voice into active voice, and sentences restructuring. The translator also needs to focus on cohesion and coherence in textual level.Meanwhile, under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translation show the core meaning of the source text as much as possible and achieve an ideal translation effect. At last,in order to improve the quality of the translation, the translator concludes the enlightenments from the translation process and combines the translation theories with the translation practice to the maximum extent. |
