The western part of the Tianshan Mountains is a key area of biodiversity conservation in China, which has the exeptionally great biodiversity of alpine, subalpine organisms, climate, and vertical band spectrum. The region starts from the eastern margin of Nileke County of Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture and the northwest of Hejing County of Bayingo Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in the East and ends at the border of Zhaosu County in the West.It is about 380 km.The species composition and distribution of Mosses are unclear in the western Tianshan Mts.Therefore,it is very important to study the species diversity and flora of Mosses in the western Tianshan Mts.Through the collection of Mosses samples over the past 30 years in the western Tianshan Mts,considering the comprehensive characteristics of climate, topography, and vegetation in the region, collateed more than 1500 specimens. The samples are identified and counted by classical taxonomic method concerning relevant Mosses research data,The data of Moss species composition in the western Tianshan Mts were obtained and the distribution of species diversity and floristic components were studied. The main results are as follows:1.There are 36 families,94 genera and 280 species(including varieties and prototypes)of Mosses in this area.Among them,8 families and 48 genera belong to single species family, accounting for 22.22% and 51.06% of total families and genera, and 2.85% and 17.14% of total species; There are 9 dominant families with The family of Pottiaceae,Bryaceae,Brachytheciaceae,Grimmiaceae,Mniaceae,Orthotrichaceae,Amblystegiaceae,Mielichhoferiaceae and Hypnaceae.including 193 species of 45 genera, accounts for 25 % of the total families,47.87 % of the total genera and 68.93 %of the total species in the study area.It is the main of Mosses in the western Tianshan Mountain; There are 11 dominant genera, including 136 species, accounting for48.57 % of the total species.2.1 new recorded genus,Pseudopohlia, and 3 new recorded species,Pseudopohlia microstoma(Harv.)U.Mizushima,Pohlia gedeana Bosch & Sande Lac.Gangulee.and P.marchica Osterw.,were found in Xinjiang.3.The comparison of species richness of Mosses in the western Tianshan Mts.and other seven comparison regions shows that the comprehensive coefficient value Si of this area is 0.6768,ranking the third in comparison with the other seven regions.4.? diversity analysis shows that Shannon Wiener index is between 0.9464-1.062,the largest is F6(Yishengbugu in Nileke County),and F3(Muzat valley in Zhaosu County)is the smallest. The diversity of Mosses reflected by Simpson dominance index and Pielou evenness index is the same basically, and the DSi and E values are between0.5 and 1.5.5.There are nine floristic types of Mosses in the Western Tianshan Mts.,including108 North Temperate elements, accounting for the highest proportion(51.92%),22 East Asian elements(18.52%),and 11 Chinese endemic elements(5.29%).It shows that temperate elements are dominant in the floristic composition of the region.6.The similarity of Mosses genus between the western Tianshan Mts.and the adjacent areas showed that the mosses genus similarity between this region and the Altai Mountains and the eastern Tianshan Mts.was the highest, with similarity coefficients of 85.7% and 79.6%,respectively.The lowest similarity coefficient with the genus of Lishan in Shanxi Province is 28.5%.7.The R/T values and cluster analysis showed that the Mosses floristic characteristics of China have both obvious latitude zonal distribution and regional irregular distribution. The Western Tianshan and the eastern Tianshan belong to the same mountain range, but the results show that the floristic composition of Eastern Tianshan and Altai Mountains is closer than that of Western Tianshan Mts.
