Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to fund a school social work program for an urban elementary school within Los Angeles Unified School District. An extensive literature review was performed to identify the most appropriate prevention program that will help develop strategies to improve school climate for staff and students, increase parent involvement and address behavioral problems among third grade students in West Athens Elementary School. A grant was written to implement the Positive Action program and as an adaptation to meet the goals of this project, incorporate a component from the Safe & Civil Schools Positive Behavioral and Interventions Support Model. A search for potential funding sources resulted in the selection of the Joseph Drown Foundation as most feasible for the proposed project. The actual submission and/or funding of the grant were not required for the successful completion of this project.
