Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the project was to fund a comprehensive post-secondary educational support and mentorship program for non-minor dependents. This program will be offered to current non-minor dependents receiving AB-12 benefits through the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Transitional Resource Center located in the DCFS South County office in Lakewood, California. The hosting agency of this project, We Lift LA, provides extensive support to former foster youth in Los Angeles County.;After conducting a review of the literature, the grant writer designed a program providing mentoring, tutoring, support counseling, educational counseling, and related workshops to non-minor dependents. After researching funding sources, the Stuart Foundation was determined to the most applicable match for funding of the project based on their extensive history of funding educationally-based programs for foster youth.;Actual submission and funding of the grant were not required for the successful completion of this project.
