Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was writing a grant proposal to obtain funding for a psychoeducational support group for families who have a loved one who is a substance user in the South Los Angeles and Crenshaw Districts. Families in New Directions was selected as the host agency to house this program, based on its demographics and geographic location. The grant writer explored potential funding sources to locate the best possible source that fit the goals and objectives of this project. This support group is designed to increase family awareness of substance use and provide a support system and supportive therapy to decrease feelings of guilty, depression and anxiety that the family experiences due to the misuse of substance(s). This project should improve the overall well-being of the target population. The actual funding and/or submission of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this academic project.
