At present, with the development of the household and portable audio processors such as DVD audio disc, MP3 multimedia player and hearing aid, the requirements of whose in the volume, power waste and processing speed is more and more harsh. Nowadays, the analog audio processing technology is replaced gradually by the digital audio processing technology, and the development of digital audio processing technology is rapid. The audio processing digitization is using the digital filter algorithm to sample and process the audio signal. The traditional digital filters use the multiplication and the accumulation (MAC) structure that needs to carry on many times multiplication and additive operations. As a result of multiplier has huge structure, it impropriates the majority area and consumes most power of the chip. Thus the audio processing system has the insufficiency in the volume and the processing speed. Therefore the traditional digital filter cannot be satisfied with the household and portable audio processor that needs small volume, low power waste and high processing speed.We study the traditional algorithm of the digital filters, especially the FIR filters; provide a resolve of audio processor, which based on FPGA to meet the requirements of the portable and household audio systems. We improve the algorithm of the N orders FIR filters; figure the coefficient of the filters with POT (Power of Two). It makes the filter just needs an adder and a shifter to realize. This reduce the complexity of the algorithm, the waste of power and the area of the chip. We adopt the VHDL language to design each module.
