Abstract/Summary:
The purpose ofthis project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to create support groups for Latino parents who have open cases with Child Protective Services. The goal ofthis project is to improve Latino parents' rates of reunification with their children, increase successful case terminations, and decrease the recidivism or re-entry rates to the child welfare system. The proposed program will provide services in Spanish and will include psychoeducational and therapeutic topics discussing U.S. child abuse laws, the child welfare process, parents' and children's rights, and acculturation, as recommended in the literature. The Weingart Foundation was selected as the funder because the target population for their funding is required to be an underserved population; and Latino parents and children have been described as underserved populations in the literature. The actual funding and/or submission ofthis grant were not requirements for the successful completion of this academic report.
