Abstract/Summary:
With the advent of the Internet, the spread of citizen journalism and changing revenue models, print newspapers are struggling. As a result, they've had to innovate and adapt to the changing conditions.; That's exactly what Morris Publishing Group did in 2005 when it decided to launch Bluffton Today as both an online and print entity. This study examines what happened in the 22 months since that decision.; The researcher used a case-study approach and an online survey, supplemented by one-on-one interviews. She looked at why the organization started the online and print products, what the organization was trying to achieve with those efforts, how it measured the results, and how the Web site's citizen bloggers view and use the community network.; The findings from this study add to the literature of newspaper innovation, provide guidance for news organizations hoping to embrace different publication platforms and broaden the concept of community.
