However, since Mr. Cai Yuanpei became the president of Peking University, he launched great reform in the campus. Academic research and useful after school activities were highly encouraged, and the closed discipline system was broken up. These all built favorable atmosphere for journalism education's emergence. Besides, teachers and students' abundant journalism experiences and upsurge of newspapers and periodicals' activities in the university right then, also pushed the Journalism Study Society's origination and development. We also explored the Society's key men's related cognition and behavior, and its actual evolution in Peking University. Cai Yuanpei regarded journalism as a kind of latest western science, he was very glad to unfold journalism education and study as the first university in China to do so, longed for journalism to become a subject in Peking University earnestly. Both of Xu Baohuang's journalism learning in the U.S. and his acquaintance with Mr. Cai made him the main principal of journalism education in Peking University. He gradually formed his grasp and thinking about journalism education and study which was strongly pertinent to the Chinese Press' reality during his teaching in the Society. Since the Society's come into existence, it kept a expansive trend. After one and a half years, Peking University set up a formal journalism course based on it. However, it diminished in the end of the year 1920, journalism education in Peking University had stopped temporarily. Moreover, the dissertation has put early journalism education in Peking University in the whole development of journalism education in China, so as to position it. And found: this widely recognized beginning of Chinese journalism education lacked obviously direct connections with subsequent ones, maybe only a concept referred to the earliest time.
