Constructive News: An Active Reporting Path

As the "watcher" of society,the primary duty of the media is to watch the environment.Therefore,the news that can play a role of supervising society and exposuring issues has become an important means for media to gain the trust of the audience,establish their legitimacy,and seek benefits.However,the excessive attention of negative news have brought new problems.The negative world picture created by the media can not reflect the overall situation of society,but also has a negative impact on the psychology of the audience.In this context,the Western journalists began to explore a positive and constructive way of reporting,and Constructive Journalism came into being under this background.As a new form of news,what are the connotations and roles of Constructive Journalism?What features do they contain?What are the implications for current news practice?These are the main concerns of this paper.In this regard,this paper studies it from both theoretical and practical aspects.In terms of theoretical research,this paper mainly uses literature analysis method to systematically study the theoretical development of Constructive Journalism,clarify and define the concept of Constructive Journalism,and clarify its role norms.It is found that although Constructive Journalism is a new form of news,it is essentially a rethinking of social responsibility theory.It is based on the precedents of social responsibility theory such as Muckraking,Public Journalism,Peace Journalism,and Activist Journalism,etc.and creatively introduces positive psychology into journalism.Its main point is to try to arouse the public's attention to the prospects of social change,the focus on solutions of social problems,and promote social development and progress by constructive reporting.In practical research,this paper uses case study,and content analysis to study the website of Positive News,a representative British Constructive Journalism media,and chooses the news published by the website from January 2016 to December 2018 as the research samples.It examines the development and changes of news reporting on Positive News website and the general characteristics of Constructive Journalism Practice from two aspects.In terms of of reporting content,Positive News attaches importance to long-term issues such as environment and has an international reporting perspective,and it pays attention to social development and progress,explores opportunities in social change,responds to social problems and focuses on solutions.In terms of reporting method,expanding the perspective of reporting,breaking negative stereotypes and putting solutions at the core of reporting are the important characteristics of Constructive Journalism.On the basis of the research on the theory and practice of Constructive Journalism,this paper summarizes the innovation and significance of Constructive Journalism,and puts forward some reflections on the news practice in the context of "construction" in China.
