In 2020,the outbreak of the New Crown epidemic attracted a great deal of attention from all sectors of society and public opinion. The media coverage of the New Crown epidemic exacerbated the seriousness of the problem at certain moments and caused a certain degree of psychological panic among the population.Constructive journalism,as a problem-solving-oriented concept of journalistic operation,is dedicated to conveying positive sentiments, mobilising public participation and solving social problems, rather than simply recreating social topics. This paper will present the constructive news coverage in the coverage of the new crown epidemic in China from the perspective of constructive journalism, using the case study method and other methods, and using three media outlets, namely Caixin.com,Xinjing News and Southern Metropolis Daily,as examples,to conduct textual analysis of 748 valid samples.Based on the above ideas, this paper focuses on three research questions: 1.the basic status of constructive journalism in the reporting of new crown epidemics in China;2.the breakout path and specific operation mode of domestic new crown epidemic reporting from the perspective of constructive journalism;3.the application of constructive thinking in the reporting of public health emergencies. The study found that constructive awareness, measures and effects in domestic epidemic reporting are weak, and constructive journalism is still in its infancy in China. To address the current situation and problems, this study proposes a breakthrough path for domestic epidemic reporting and a specific method of operation-the "6W1H" model."Who-What is the problem-When-What are the causes-What is it now-How to do better-What are the results. Finally, the paper proposes the use of constructive thinking in reporting on public health emergencies, specifically:positive thinking to focus on audience emotions;problem-solving thinking to calm public opinion;future thinking to guide news reporting;both "objectivity" and"constructiveness".
