Collective memory is a process of reconstructing the past from the perspective of the present. It enables a group to have a sense of identity and maintain cohesion. In the construction of collective memory, the role of the media should not be underestimated. The emergence of social media has given people unprecedented freedom of writing. The construction of memory is no longer limited to the official government. The right to memory is moved to the ordinary people, and everyone can participate in the construction of collective memory. The Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 was a major natural disaster that China experienced after the founding of New China, causing tens of thousands of casualties. However,it is also an important opportunity for China to establish a scientific mechanism for disaster prevention and mitigation.Beginning in 2009,the State Council has stipulated that May 12 of each year is China's "Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day".As a major natural disaster, the commemoration of the victims has become an annual tradition. The Wenchuan earthquake has become a collective memory in the hearts of Chinese people. This article takes the questions and answers under the topic of "Wenchuan Earthquake(2008)"in Zhihu and the main report of the People's Daily on the Wenchuan earthquake from May to 2018 each year as samples, through the method of quantitative and textual analysis, combined with the collective Memory-related theories, respectively, explore the collective memory of Wenchuan Earthquake in Zhihu and the "People's Daily",and analyze the dialogue between Zhihu and People's Daily on the collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake. The thesis is mainly composed of three aspects:introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction part expounds the origin and significance of the research, the research status, research questions and theoretical framework, research methods and sample selection. The body part includes three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the types and characteristics of the collective memory of Wenchuan earthquake in Zhihu. The memory types include "scenario recurrence" memory,"disaster relief'memory,"post-disaster reflection" memory, and "new situation in the disaster area" memory.Memory characteristics include memory becoming the normal state, digital memory highlighting the pain, personal memory highlighting self-expression,and disaster relief challenges the mainstream media memory. The second chapter analyzes the types and characteristics of the collective memory of Wenchuan Earthquake in People's Daily.Memory types include "scenario recurrence" memory,"post-disaster reflection" memory, and "new situation in disaster area"memory.Memory features include desalination to become normal, highlighting "national power"in disaster relief reconstruction, and the selective writing of the negative content of the Wenchuan earthquake. The third chapter explores the dialogue and contention of the collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake.Among them, the specific expression of Zhihu and People's Daily about Wenchuan earthquake memory dialogue is the "past" and "present" and integrity of memory. The main factors of memory dialogue include objective factors and subjective factors.there is a competition for collective memory of Wenchuan earthquake within Zhihu,it is manifested in the writer's struggle,Zhihu controls over the Wenchuan earthquake memory writing, and the main reasons for the competition include the writer's mixed and collaborative writing. In the conclusion part, the paper considers the process of constructing the collective memory of Wenchuan earthquake with Zhihu and People's Daily. At the same time, how to better construct the Wenchuan earthquake collective memory for the mainstream media, the paper gives certain countermeasures.
