Especially at the very moment crisis arrives,a Effective media is the best way for inform and meet them,since people are in a state of panic and urgent desire for knowledge.Therefore,as a connecting bridge between the public and the Government, the media has the responsibility and obligation to report the entire crisis fully,timely and Comprehensive.For doing a good job on reporting on the crisis,they should make good use of a powerful weapon called"Agenda-setting"theory.It can cannot only change the knowledge,attitudes,behavior of the audiences,but also has far-reaching significance in guiding public opinion,alleviating social contradictions,easing emotional instability of the public and so on.Media coverage of Wenchuan earthquake can be said to be a milestone in the history, and it is clear that its effectiveness is huge.Therefore In this paper,we take the Agenda-Setting of the reports on Wenchuan earthquake by"People's Daily"as the object, profoundly expound the significance of agenda setting theory and crisis theory.And make some analysis and argument on the success and the lack when media reported these events using those theories,and at the same time,give some comments on how to effectively set up the media coverage of crises.In this paper,we select the first month's reports of"People's Daily"Wenchuan earthquake as a sample,Extract effective features of the data by mathematical statistics methods,and prove that the"agenda-setting theory"is effective in reporting crisis events.Summed up the success performance of"People's Daily"that they set the subject for different phases,when they reported the Wenchuan earthquake.They set focus on the timeliness of the subject,the quality of the subject,the flexibility in the use of expression and make sure that the subject they set are close to the audience.At the same time,in this article,we make an analysis of progress that the spread of the subject setting,psychological comfort that people gave,effectively guide of public opinion and lead to the actual behavior of public assistance.Although it has been made a great success of the whole the media coverage of the Wenchuan earthquake,there are still a number of shortcomings in the subject settings.For example, the lack of critical perspective and the lag of news report.In this paper,a number of solutions have been made for these lacks in the subject settings.This will be much helpful for the media to make good results in subject settings and news propagations.
