The Construction Of Collective Memory Of "5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake" By China's Party Newspaper

The Wenchuan earthquake is one of the most devastating earthquakes since the founding of the People's Republic of China.It has the widest range of disasters,the largest number of disabled people,and the most difficult emergency response.It is known as the “Wenchuan Earthquake”.The Wenchuan earthquake has been in the past ten years.On May 12 th of every year,online or private people can set off a commemorative craze.The relevant reports of the media have never stopped.The collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake has become the spiritual force on the road of the Chinese nation.In today's rapidly developing society,mass media has become an important way to construct collective memory.People can recognize and understand collective memory through the way of the medium characterize memory.This article takes the Wenchuan earthquake report of People's Daily from 2009 to2018 as a sample.Based on the theory of “collective memory”,this paper uses content analysis and text analysis to explore how the party newspaper constructs the collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake.Through the combing and analysis of the Wenchuan Earthquake related reports of the People's Daily,the paper analyzes the Number of reports,report layout,report genre,source of news,topic of the reports and so on.On this basis,this paper summarizes 12 report themes,and classified four types of memory: achievementive type memory,praise type memory,reflection type memory and traumatic type memory.Then,under the care of the collective memory theory,the paper analyzes the People's daily construction Strategy of Wenchuan earthquake collective memory from the five aspects: "disaster prevention and mitigation day","commemorative Symbol","contrast of the past and present","ceremony and focus" and "character model".Finally,it discusses the influence orsignificance of the collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake.The study found that the media presentation of the People's Daily Wenchuan earthquake reports has the following characteristics: the reports declined year by year;the Wenchuan earthquake reports used various forms;the report always followed the principle of people-oriented.On the aspect of memory theme,combined with statistical analysis of data,it was found that People's Daily has a strong selective memory characteristics.It mainly reflected in the media focused on highlighting the achievementive type memory and the praise type memory,while weakening reflective memory and traumatic memory.In the specific construction strategy,the Wenchuan earthquake reported of People's Daily used five ways: relying on the disaster prevention and mitigation day to connect memories,relying on commemorative symbols to carry memory,using the contrast of past and present to reconstruct memory,using ceremony and focus to strengthen memory and using role models to maintain memory.Therefore,the collective memory of the Wenchuan earthquake had the important significance of improving the disaster prevention and mitigation system,enhancing national identity,promoting national identity and respecting the people's subjectivity.
