This article takes the China-US trade report friction between China Daily in 2018-2019 as a sample,and uses content analysis and corpus-based text analysis as the main research methods to explore the Chinese economic image in China Daily's China-US trade report.Explore the building methods,point out problems,and make suggestions.The study found that the China Daily 's Sino-US trade war friction report had short articles and few in-depth reports;the report genre was single and focused on news;objectively expressed subjective positions,and the weight of Chinese and Western discourse was equal.The report has shaped the economic image of the victims of ChinaUS trade imbalances,tough-minded protesters,and defenders of the world economic order.Its construction method includes two aspects: form and discourse.In addition to basic forms such as text,pictures,and videos,China Daily uses news cartoons and special web pages.In terms of discourse strategy,this paper analyzes the referential strategy,claim strategy,and argumentative strategy of the China Daily's China-US trade war report with reference to the historical-discourse analysis method.In its alleged strategy,China Daily distinguishes between the Trump administration and the United States,suggesting that Trump's tariff policy has hurt the United States.In its claim strategy,China Daily uses a lot of metaphors to illustrate the serious consequences of the US tariff barrier policy.Use positive comments to express welcome to peace negotiations.In terms of argumentation,through the usual phrases such as danger,burden,and threat,the image of a responsible big country aware of the impact of trade barriers on the world economy has been constructed.Existing problems include media dissemination ability,monotonous layout,selftalk,etc.This article puts forward suggestions: strengthen the positioning of China's image and enhance the building of the power of external media;use clever news pictures to avoid matching pictures;use more data charts in economic reports;combine news cartoons with news commentary;explore multiple cartoons Possibility of reporting news;enhancing language charm,telling Chinese stories well,focusing on one country and one group of people,diversifying the choice of subject matter,and not avoiding problems in China.
