In the 1980 s,with the climax of the global economic integration process, more and more countries were embedded in the global value chain by participating in the international division of labor, but for a long time, developed countries such as Europe and the United States have occupied high-end positions in the global value chain and many low-and middle-income development Chinese countries are facing the dilemma of low-end locking of global value chains. How to solve the problem of low-end locking of global value chains has become an issue that academics are eagerly discussing. With the rise of the Internet at the end of the 20 th century, the emergence of e-commerce brought new ideas to solve this problem. In this context, this paper studies the impact of e-commerce on the status of participating countries in global value chains.First, from the perspective of three aspects: trade costs, corporate innovation, and value chain upgrades. This paper constructs a theoretical mechanism for e-commerce to improve the status of participating countries' global value chains.E-commerce can help companies significantly reduce trade costs, effect promotes corporate innovation, and promotes industrial upgrading based on its unique consumer feedback drive chain.Ultimately achieving the goal of enhancing the status of the global value chain of participating countries. Then this article constructs an e-commerce development index from four aspects: Internet infrastructure,e-commerce application capabilities, trade facilitation, and logistics foundation. It measures the E-commerce development index of 36 countries in 2006-2014 with the data from the World Bank and the Universal Postal Union and analyze the current status of e-commerce development in the sample countries. In addition,it also measures the global value chain position and participation index of the 36 countries with the WIOD countries input-output database as explained variables. With the e-commerce development index as the explanatory variable.Financial support, government support, foreign direct investment,R&D investment, import and export volume as control variables. The empirical analysis using a fixedeffects model shows that e-commerce has a significant role in promoting the status of global value chains in low-and middle-income countries, but not a very significant role in promoting high-income countries. Finally, based on the conclusions, suggestions from four aspects of infrastructure, human resource investment, laws and regulations, and encouragement of foreign investment are provided for countries to improve the level of e-commerce development to promote their global value chain status.
