Research On The Integration Situation Of Traditional Culture Into The China's Original Popular Science Books And The Public's Reading Needs

Popular science is the key link to improve the national scientific quality,and together with the development of education,the implementation of scientific and technological development and innovation,and the establishment of a sound scientific research system,it constitutes the basic work of cultivating the national scientific and technological competitiveness.Popular science books have become one of the important ways of popular science because they can guarantee the systematization and stability of popular science content.However,at present,China's original popular science books are in an awkward situation with low sales volume.In order to improve this situation,many experts such as Chen Fanglie called for the combination of science and humanity in science popularization.Therefore,adding traditional culture with humanistic connotation to the creation of science popularization has become a promising creative trend.Under this background,the research came into being.The purpose of this research is to explore how to better integrate traditional culture into writing of original popular science books,mainly from two aspects: The First is text analysis of the integration of traditional culture in China's existing original popular science books,including the content,the presentation form,and the role of traditional culture in popular science content(hereinafter referred to as science popularization role);The second is to investigate the public's reading need for traditional culture in original popular science books,including the content demand,the presentation form demand,and the science popularization role demand for traditional culture.Based on the completion of the above two studies,the research compares the integration of traditional culture in existing original popular science books with the reading needs of the public to obtain the consistencies and differences between them.Finally,it puts forward suggestions for the integration of traditional culture in the writing of original popular science books.The conclusions are as follows:In terms of content:(1)The traditional culture in the existing original popular science books can be divided into five categories: traditional Chinese character literature,traditional technological inventions,traditional religious philosophy and ethics,traditional customs,and traditional art.The existing original popular science books tend to choose the content of traditional Chinese character literature,but less for traditional customs and traditional art.(2)The public has a high demand for traditional customs and traditional technological inventions.And traditional customs are the traditional culture that the public most hopes to read in popular science books.(3)There are consistencies and differences between the content supply of traditional culture in existing original popular science books and the public's content demand for traditional culture,and there are relatively more differences.In terms of presentation forms:(1)There are five presentation forms of the traditional culture in the existing original popular science books: the first is that the traditional culture is all presented in texts;the second is that the traditional culture is presented in texts and pictures,but the texts and pictures are not on the same page,the texts appear first and then the pictures;the third is that the traditional culture is presented in texts and pictures,but the texts and pictures are not on the same page,the pictures appear first and then the texts;The fourth is that traditional culture content is presented on the same page with texts and pictures,and there is no other irrelevant texts or pictures between them;The fifth is that traditional culture content is presented on the same page with texts and pictures,and there are other irrelevant texts or pictures between them.The first presentation form is the main presentation form of traditional culture in the existing original popular science books,while the other presentation forms related to the combination of text and picture are less likely to be applied.(2)The public does not want to completely present the content of traditional culture in texts,but wants to express the content of traditional culture in texts and corresponding pictures on the same page.(3)There are many differences between the presentation forms of traditional culture in existing original popular science books and the public's demand for the form of traditional culture,and there is almost no consistency.In term of the role of traditional culture in popular science content:(1)The role of traditional culture in popular science content lies in the proportion of traditional culture in popular science content(expressed by ‘distribution & proportion',see Chapter 3 for the specific reasons)and the relationship between traditional culture and popular science content.Traditional culture is often scattered in the existing original popular science books and occupies a small proportion in the relevant popular science content.The relationship between traditional culture and popular science content is not close in general.(2)The situation in which the public has a high demand for the distribution & proportion of traditional culture is that traditional culture is concentrated in a few chapters of popular science books and accounts for a large proportion.The public has a high demand for the relationship between traditional culture and popular science content.(3)There are consistencies and differences between the role of traditional culture in popular science content in existing original popular science books and the role demand of the public for traditional culture,and there are more differences than consistencies.On the basis of the above research,the following suggestions are put forward for integrating traditional culture into the writing of popular science books:(1)When choosing the content of traditional culture,it is suggested to choose the traditional culture that has high public demand but is currently used less in the existing original popular science books.On the one hand,it can ensure the sales volume of books if it is consistent with the public demand.On the other hand,it will provide more content mining space for popular science writing because of less use.Research shows that applying traditional customs-related content to popular science writing is a good choice.(2)When choosing the presentation form of traditional culture,it is suggested to present the content of traditional culture in the form of combination of pictures and texts,and try to ensure that the text and its corresponding pictures are presented on the same page.(3)When positioning the role of traditional culture in science popularization,it is suggested that traditional culture should be regarded as a feature of popular science books,and the scientific content contained in traditional culture or the scientificity of traditional culture itself should be deeply explored to make the role of traditional culture in science popularization play properly.
