After Trump came to power, under the advocacy of his "U.S.priority" policy, the United States introduced a number of protectionist measures, such as increasing tariffs, raising technical barriers, and restarting trade agreement negotiations, which had a huge impact on the global trade order.Especially on Sino-U.S.Economic and trade issues,Trump repeatedly accused China of "unfair trade practices" and adopted a series of sanctions against China.Since then, the two countries have caused trade deficits, tariff barriers, intellectual property rights, the fierce confrontation of economic and trade issues such as global trade rules has aroused widespread concern worldwide.News reporting is an important source for the public to obtain important information and make value predictions. It is also an important means for a country to shape its image and compete for the right to speak. This article selects two authoritative economic newspapers in China and the United States-"Wall Street Journal" and "Economic Daily News" to analyze and study their characteristics and differences in the Sino-US trade war reports. This article is divided into introduction, body and summary. The introduction is a brief overview of the relevant background of the trade war,and at the same time summarizes the relevant research at home and abroad, and proposes specific research arrangements. The main part of the text is Chapters 2,3,and 4:Chapter 2 quantifies and analyzes the extracted text data of the Sino-US trade war in the "Wall Street Journal" and"Economic Daily".The subject of the report and the tendency of the report to do specific content research.Chapter 3 divides the four stages of "conflict outbreak period","negotiation truce period","two-sided confrontation period" and "event decay period"according to the key time nodes. The samples are classified according to different stages and combined with the framework theory. The characteristics of the framework at different stages and the change process are summarized. The fourth chapter is an in-depth analysis of the content differences between the two media reports in China and the United States, and explores the internal logic in the construction of the framework. The study found that:The Wall Street Journal and the Economic Daily reported the same peak changes in the number of reports; The Wall Street Journal focused on influencing reports. The reporting genre was mainly communication, and the US government and industry experts were cited as sources.More inclined to negative criticism in reporting position. The "Economic Daily" mostly focuses on stance reports, and the report genres are mostly commentary.Sources of information rely on domestic government sources and pro-Chinese experts at home and abroad. The positive guidance and negative criticism complement each other. In the construction of the reporting framework, the two media are not set in stone, but are dynamically changing as the trade war progresses.Specifically, the Wall Street Journal's framework construction change is"firm self-defense"-"recourse to panic"-"recourse to controversy"-"reflection policy"-"expression of doubt"."Counter-attack"-"active response"-"response to disputes"-"seek cooperation"-"recognize pressure".The different framework characteristics of Chinese and American media can also reflect the differences between China and the West in terms of ideology, cultural background, political system, and media operating mechanism. It shows the purpose of competing for the right to speak by using different news reports.
