The Comparative Study Of The News Reports Of Mainstream English Newspapers In India,Nepal And Pakistan

Located on the western border of China,Tibet is an important strategic location for China.However,with the Dalai Lama and his supporters defected to India and the so-called “Exiled Government in Tibet” was established,the Western media took this opportunity to advocate the Tibetan independence activity,which is evoking the national conflict and degrading the international reputation of China.Apparently,their final conspiracy is splitting China.However,the voice from China in Tibet issue is totally hindered and misunderstood by the dissemination from western ati-China forces and Dalai gang.Only by eliminating those “noise” can we improve our international publicity in Tibet.At present,the academic research on the Tibet-related reports from international media is mostly concentrated in the developed western countries such as the United States,the United Kingdom,and France.The researches on pan-himalaya region which is the largest settlement of overseas Tibetan is lacking,such as India,Nepal and Pakistan.Focusing on the Tibet related reports in Pan-Himalaya region,this research partly filled this research area.The method of Fantasy Theme Analysis proposed in the Symbolic Convergence Theory was used to analyze the one year's Tibet related reports in Times of India,the Himalayan Times and the Dawn,which are the English newspapers of India,Nepal and Pakistan.Some problems such as topic distribution was unbalanced,Chinese voice was missing and the information source selection is unreasonable were found by analyzing some core factors like number,manuscripts source,information source,key words and attitude of reports.Some negative emotions and prejudice against China were also reflected in the reports of India.Under the instruction of the Field Theory,the research figured out the reasons caused those bias by analyzing the political capital,cultural capital and economic capital of three countries.Some shallow suggestions were proposed for enhancing the international communication of Tibet based on the construction of the media demand system,current communication dilemma,cultural difference and the classic 5W communication model.
