| Since the opening-up policy was carried out in an all-around way, China's status in the world has been rising, China also makes remarkable progress in its communication with the outside world.In modern society, external communication could set up a good image for a country, it could also increase a country's influence.Since 1990's, China has fully realized the great advantages of the Internet in external communication, various government- sponsored websites in China launched their English versions in order to expand China's communication with the world.The English Edition of People's Daily Online was established on January 14, 1998. Its major readers are foreigners. It translates major news releases from the People's Daily, and new policies, resolutions and statements of the Chinese Government.The English Edition has been made by its commendable editing work a first-rate distributing center of information about China.After a few years of development, the English Edition has established its own style, it is so far one of the most authoritative English media in China.Since establishment in 1998, the English Edition has made great efforts in introducing China to the outside world and let the world know more about China.However, it has some problems like other English media do which have hindered its development.The paper proposed some approaches and strategic thoughts after analyzing the problems the English Version has, and hopefully, it could add some new perspective for China's external communication. |
