Reform of the cultural system was carried out from the early period of the eleventh five-year plan.New guidelines,directions and timetables were set forth for the news and press system.As a monopolistic industry,publishing enjoyed an "iron rice bowl" treatment ensured in good and bad years,and remuneration was not related to work performance.As industrial reform will harm the interests of multiple parties,both lack of enthusiasm and practical barriers have made many publishers unwilling to transform into enterprises and join market competition.For knowledge-intensive enterprises like publishing companies,talent is the most important asset.Adopting an appropriate appraisal system to assess the amount and quality of employees' work and give them feedback can not only make them aware of the company's development goal and expectation of their personal development,but also help to stimulate their enthusiasm and improve their performance.Therefore,it is an urgent problem for publishing companies to establish a performance appraisal system that takes into account both social and economic benefits.Publishing Company A,as a long-established publishing enterprise that completed restructuring not long ago,has relatively sufficient capital and high recognition in the industry.However,its simple corporate structure and rigid management system are not conducive to its sustained progress in the competitive market.Thus it is imperative to integrate human resources and improve performance assessment.This paper is innovative in that it,from a market-oriented perspective,cosntructs a database for Publishing Company A's staff performance appraisal and improves its original process of staff performance appraisal.This paper makes a market-oriented analysis,based on main performance appraisal theories,of the main process and means of performance management,and provides theoretical basis for Publishing Company A's improvement of performance appraisal methods.Then the paper examines the issues existing in Publishing Company A's performance management process and their causes;with consideration given to market demand,makes in-depth exploration and proposes solutions to book subject selection,production,sale service etc.
