The development of modern industry makes rapid effective reactive compensation is necessary,FACTS rose in response to the proper time and conditions and develops rapidly.Static synchronous compensator(STATCOM)is an important reactive power compensation device in FACTS family,most of control methods of the STATCOM controller are complicated and not easy to master.The main goal of the thesis is to find a simple and effective control method that can maintain the stability of the system voltage and improve the transient stability of power systems,and design a STATCOM controller based on this control method.First of all,this thesis briefly introduces the significance of reactive power compensation and FACTS,reviews the development process of reactive power compensation device,discusses the development and research status quo of STATCOM and the current research focus,and illustrates the necessity of the research.Next,this thesis studies the working principle and main circuit structure of STATCOM,analyzes the steady state mathematical model of STATCOM according to its working principle,and analyzes the application of the instantaneous reactive power in STATCOM.By theoretical analysis,the dynamic model for STATCOM is deduced,and a few main parameters and control variables are got.Then,According to the changed parameters of power system,the characteristics of the nonlinear as well as to the control requirements,this thesis aims at the goal of maintain system node voltage and enhance power system stability,designs the inverse system-PI controller.And combining fuzzy control logic and the inverse system PI,this thesis proposes a fuzzy PI control method that can meet the requirements of the power system,and designs a controller for STATCOM based on this control method.Then,this thesis briefly gives the hardware component and function description,designs the software control process and software interrupt processesIn the end,this thesis builds simulation model of STATCOM by using SIMULINK package of MATLAB,gets the control parameter after theoretical analysis and simulation.By using SIMULINK package of MATLAB on the model simulation with different control methods,the simulation results proves that the designed control method is better than that of PI control method,and make the STATCOM can give full play to its compensation effect.
