STATCOM(static synchronous compensator) is a new type of reactive power compensation equipment developed in recent years.Compared with other reactive compensation devices, it is the regulation of speed faster, bigger the limits of work,and its component parts both from cost and volume are reduced a lot.Because it has such a superior performance, so it has been widely studied by researchers and become a dynamic reactive power compensation device research.STATCOM device used in a lot of PI controller, such as voltage outer loop and current inner loop of PI controller is used to control. Both traditional PI and PID controllers are integer order, in fact, the number of the system we apply will contain non integer order,it's the fractional order. In order to enhance the performance of the system, combined with the actual operation of STATCOM is an integer order PI controller design fractional order PI~?controller is necessary. The design parameters of the PI~?controller requires very flexible, strike its argument more difficult. To accurately adjust the PI~?controller, it must be the main control parameters such asPK ?IK ? Klstrike. So choose a high-performance algorithm to optimize the parameters is particularly important.First,this paper proposes a novel improved Chaos Particle Swarm Optimization(CPSO improvement),the model of the improved algorithm and its position and velocity updating formula are given; this improvement CPSO and conventional CPSO performance were tested comparative analysis, this algorithm was found to improve the effect is more prominent.Then based on the improved design of STATCOM CPSO fractional order PI~? controller, Comparative analysis of the traditional PI controller and the PI~?controller based on STATCOM, thus the proposed improved CPSO is used in the parameter tuning of the PI~?controller, and the specific operation steps of the algorithm are given.Finally, the simulation of the proposed concept is carried out to verify its effectiveness.The first is through improved PSO algorithm to optimize the controlparameters, and the result of using the basic algorithm tuning control parameters after the comparative analysis, the results show that the improved CPSO can reduce the number of iterations of the algorithm, and the convergence speed is greatly increased;then is the example simulation analysis,it's found that the voltage fluctuation of the DC side of the PI~?controller based on STATCOM is relatively small, and the change is more stable when the wind speed changes; finally is a characteristic of STATCOM in "wind farm- infinite system", in its static and transient voltage characteristics when simulation, STATCOM systems can act together to provide the required reactive power and wind farms, enabling reactive power output of the wind farm is reduced.
