The 21 st century is a “healthy century”,and “healthy life” has become the basic tone of human existence.“Pursuing health and spreading health” is the ideal and goal pursued by all mankind. At the same time, this is the century in which doing everything must follow news media logic because news media coverage has largely shaped people's awareness of an event. The issue of doctor-patient relationship for one of the health communication topics, its increasingly prominent contradiction between doctors and patients deserves our attention and some media reports on the doctor-patient relationship deserve our consideration.Though the traditional paper media lags behind the new media in the timeliness and speed of information dissemination, its leading status to public opinion is still unshakable. The three major paper media selected in this study,China Youth Daily,Southern Weekly and Health Times fully embody the rules of “national-local”,“organ newspaper-comprehensive newspaper”and “professional-nonprofessional”.The author intends to use content analysis and text analysis and the role of media theory,to analyze the three media reports on the doctor-patient relationship to explore how the media coverage characteristics of our country and the roles they play in the reports of doctor-patient relationship. The author found that from 2009 to 2017,on the source of information, the reports of the three media on the doctor-patient relationship are more likely to be biased toward the stronger one and ignore the weaker one.And on the topic of the report,it was realized the transformation from “phenomenon description” to “rational communication”.The author introduced the role theory in the sociology and constructs the role of media that should be in the report of doctor-patient relationship according to the logic of the role theory. And,the media divides the virtual role in doctor-patient relationship reports into four types: Information Transmission,Interpretation Doubts,Public opinion Guidance and Social Mobilization. The research indicates that Information Interpretation and Diffusion,Guided Reflection, and Social Mobilization these three groups formed the Role Set of media in the coverage of doctor-patient relationship at the macro level. And the media roles at the micro level include the Recorder / Communicator,Survey Data Provider,Policy Interpreter / Reflector,Post-Dispute Reflector,Health and Rationality Concept Leader,Good Doctor-patient Image Builder,Harmonious Values Advocates. In addition, there are some manifestations of anomalous media roles, such as the makers of stereotypes and demonstrators of bad behavior. The solutions for this situation are to improve the system reform and standardize the policies and regulations, especially,it's important to form a sense of role based on journalism and professionalism and cultivate the public's media literacy. This study combines the sociological role theory to quantitatively analyze the relationship between doctors and patients.Objectively,it contributes to grasp the role played by the media in the coverage of doctor-patient relationship and provide reference for other media reports.
