At present, media convergence is an important feature in the era of globalization of news transmission and the inevitable trend of media development. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for the traditional media. This article mainly explores the prospects for the traditional radio and television news industry in the context of media convergence through conducting and analyzing an occupational survey of radio and television news media in Inner Mongolia. The method adopted in this paper was cluster analysis according to categories of provincial-level,municipal-level,and county-level stations.Questionnaire surveys were conducted in the radio and television news profession in Inner Mongolia. In the end,a total of 600 questionnaires were selected for the analysis. The analysis reveals that the radio and television workers in Inner Mongolia are mainly young people under the age of 40,in which the Mongolian people takes up a certain percentage. Most of them have undergraduate or graduate qualifications, strong professional ethics, and positive views of their current institutions. The main problems faced are long working hours, low salaries, and low professional loyalty among young people;the impact of the emerging media development and the resulting worries about career prospects are also major sources of pressure on the workforce.Although workers have high recognition of emerging production methods, they still have reservations about online media coverage. In the process of media convergence, the profession has the consensus of “content is king”.According to the analysis of the results of the questionnaires, there are four problems in the broadcasting profession in Inner Mongolia: first, the stability of the practitioner team is reduced;second,it hasn't adapted to the new characteristics of the audience's habits in the context of media convergence;third,it is difficult in creating quality content;and the fourth is the traditional production model,it has difficulty in adapting to the current development requirements of the industry. These issues need to be examined not only from the perspective of media convergence, but also from theperspective of the characteristics of traditional media, together with consideration of the degree of fusion development and the influence factors such as policy, technology, and capital.Through the listed above methods for the future of the radio and TV news profession in Inner Mongolia can be discussed appropriately. At last, this paper argues that,in the background of media convergence and the context of new technology, market, and culture, radio and television news media in Inner Mongolia should focus on audience needs, improve the value of local mainstream media, further the quality platform building for the profession. The media profession needs to strengthen its ideals and belief, record and broadcast China's new era stories in a new and successful way.
