Manufacturing industry is the pillar industry of China's economy.The image of “Made in China” image,which is a manifestation of the country's “soft power”.The image of the mobile phone industry is an important part of the image of Chinese manufacturing.With the development of China's economy and the upgrading of the mobile phone industry in the world,Chinese mobile phone industry is also blooming.Along with the “going global” strategy,it has achieved remarkable results.In the international market,China's mobile phone industry inevitably confront with stiff competition and complex conflict.Some countries consider the development of China's mobile phone industry as a threat to t Western countries and keep a skeptical attitude towards China and different attitude towards Western handset industry.The media in Western,such as The Economist,have significant influence in the international community,making it a vital platform for audiences around the world to be aware of international affairs.Hence,the News of handset industry has a great impact on reshaping people's impressions of the industry.The development of mobile phone industry is fundamental to its media image.With the continuous development,the images of handset industry built by Western media are various.The main purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the image of the mobile phone industry built by The Economist and its changing trajectory.This article selected reports(2012-2016)on the mobile phone and mobile phone industry from The Economist as the samples.The author combines quantitative and qualitative research methods,and divide the selected data into two phases: 2007-2011(fast development period)and 2012-2016(mature During the development period).The report samples were analyzed and interpreted mainly from five aspects: the number of reports,the reported brands,the coverage of themes,the trend of reporting,and the key words.Finally,the article mainly analyzes the factors affecting the media image of the mobile phone industry: external organization level,social system level,individual level,and industry itself.
