Speech serves as an artistic form of vocal language expression,playing a decisive role in its social function.In the age of Coveragence Media,an increasing number of audiences have become communicators,and the speed and coverage of information communication also cannot be mentioned in the same breath.However,under this kind of media background,the communication characters and social functions of speech,which is the expressive language performance activity full of expressive force,penetration force and persuasion force are worth to be thought.The speech follows the pace of the times and has always kept the same frequency with the times.The development of science and technology and the media have led to diversification of speech communication methods and brought more possibilities in the way of expression.The ultimate effect of the speech also has a stereoscopic and multi-directional change.Its function in the society cannot be matched by other literary and artistic works.It has its unique charm and mode.Since the speech can be inherited for thousands of years without wane,we should grasp the favorable background of media integration and make the speech carry more power,thoughts and encouragement in this society.This is the era of the information explosion.People have seen more but less and less information integrate into their minds.Most people hold the psychology of curiosity and seek information over the net.They rarely concentrate on researching a problem or lose themselves into meticulous and deep thinking.Perhaps more of our previous speeches served for politics,but in current society,ideological collisions and spiritual support are more needed.What we need is a pathway leading to the upper ideological level rather than a square.The pace of people's daily life is fast and their life pressure is heavy,and the burden of life is so heavy that they will tend to be entertainment-oriented.In the era of Pan-entertainment,many literary and artistic works that do not meet the mainstream values of the times will naturally breed.In such an era,the public need more literary and artistic works that can spread positive energy and bring deep thinking.Speech can bear such social functional requirements.Speech can give a deep and formative presentation to the public towards one problem.When people don't want to sit down and listen to the long harangue,the short and precise speech is precisely what they need.This kind of language bomb which is packed small will be very likely to have a great impact on the crowd.The programme of " Class begins" hosted by Sa Beining has been well received since its launch.Not only young people like it,but also many parents praise it.This programme will naturally eremind us of TED,which was born in 1981 and has changed the society by the power of thought.Since the birth of television,TED is the first which takes promoting education and guidance as the function.Neil Bozeman's "entertainment to death" shows that the function of television education is being desalinated and more and more tend to be entertaining,but recently more audiences need a form of programme with thought,depth,information and knowledge.Since 2006,the TED speech video has been uploaded online."Class begins" and "TED" are two successful speech programmes,and the communication characteristics and social functions that they have shown are worth discussing.The article is divided into four parts: the first part expounds the historical origin and definition of the speech;the second part expounds the communication characteristics of the speech in the era of the melt media,including the misunderstandings appeared and so on.The third part is to rewrite the social function of the speech,including the analysis of the social problems in the era of melt media in order to carry on the social function of the speech.The fourth part demonstrates the problem that we should pay attention to in speech in the process of media convergence.This paper takes the media integration as the big background,then analyzes the communication characteristics and social functions of the speech in the new era,taking the specific examples in the " Class begins " and "TED" to analyze in order to correct the standard speech and reflect the important role it should play in this society.
