Under the background of globalization,national image has become an important part of measuring a country's comprehensive national strength.With the rapid economic development,the construction of China's national image has gradually become a realistic problem faced by political,economic,cultural,diplomatic and social development and even every ordinary citizen.As General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on October 2017,China needs to promote the building of international communication capacity,tell a good story of China,and show the world a true,three-dimensional and comprehensive China.The construction of communication capacity cannot be separated from the media,and the media report is one of the most powerful ways to shape the image of a country.With so many readers and large circulation,People's Daily,as the earliest official newspaper established by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,is a tool for the Chinese government to express its views and attitudes on major issues at home and abroad,and an important way for the government to propagate various policies and resolutions.People's Daily is the most influential press in China,so this article selects People's Daily as the main object to research.As the top strategic policy of China,the "Belt and Road" initiative was put forward in 2013 and pragmatically advanced in 2015.Its development has attracted worldwide attention and led to heated discussion.News reports on the "Belt and Road" initiative showed the world not only the rich fruits of China's economic development,but also a good political,economic,cultural,diplomatic and social image of China.So this article selects news reports on the "Belt and Road"in People's Daily during the four-year period from September 2013 to September 2017,to describe the characteristics of the relevant reports and China's national image objectively and put forward reporting directions and strategies on media self-molding,as a result,a good job in the construction of the national image can be done by Chinese media in the future.In this paper,the qualitative and quantitative research methods are synthetically integrated and 851 related reports about the "Belt and Road" from September 2013 to September 2017 in People's Daily are sorted out,of which 234 are collected as samples.In order to better display the research results,this paper summarizes 15 tables,draws 14 figures,and 4 reports to analyze the number of reports,the layout of the reports,the theme of the reports,the manuscript and the source of the news,the tone of the reports,and the reporting discourse as for the "Belt and Road"from three levels of frame:high,middle and low.The main research contents include the following parts:The first part expounds the research origin,research significance,research problems and research methods of the thesis,and makes a review of national image,media self-molding and the "Belt and Road".In the second part,the origin,definition and structure of the frame theory are discussed,and the sample selection,time range and sampling method are introduced to lay a good foundation for the following research.In the third part,the structure of high,middle and low levels of the selected reports are analyzed.The high-level structure analysis including the quantity,layout,theme,genre and source of the reports.The middle-level includes the analysis of the content and tone of the report.The low-level structure makes a text analysis of the reports,including the presentation of the source and the discourse of the reports.In the fourth part,the Chinese national image is generalized from the frame analysis,that is,the political image of openness,friendship and hard work,the economic image of mutual benefit and prosperity,the cultural image of inclusive and scientific education,the diplomatic image of proactive and win-win cooperation and the social image of urban development and progressive livelihood.The fifth part points out the media self-molding strategies used in the news reports of the "Belt and Road" in People's Daily,including sticking to positive reports,setting up a good image of China,standing on facts,balancing the reporting discourse and expanding the coverage,to display the"Belt and Road" from various aspects.Through the above research,reference and inspiration to spread China by actively voicing as well to focus innovation and strengthen integration is provided for the Chinese media,in hope of making the world know more about China,so as to create a new platform for international cooperation and add new impetus to common development.
