Troubles And Oulets Of Communication

Speaking into the air:A history of the idea of communication(J.D.Peters,1999)is not only a masterpiece on the idea of communication,and also an important book on communication philosophy.It is because that Peters reflects on communication in the height of human nature and existence,which constructs the ontology of communication;Throught his reflections on otherness and eros,he constructed the epistemology of communication;Based on the carding of the history of the idea and practice of communication,he grows a history view on communication;Peters expressed his deeply despair on communication,but at the same time he appreciates the benefits of communication,which shows his dialectical thinking on communication.For the first part of the dissertation,I study on the basic assumptions of Peters'idea of communication in Speaking into the air.There are basic assumptions since it's a philosophy research on communication,and they're cornerstones both of Peters' idea of communication and my reaearch on Speaking into the air.There are three basic assumptions in his book,including that communication is linked with human nature,the impossibility of prefect communication and the eternal yearn for prefect communication.Then I argue about the troubles of communication discussed in Speaking into the air.The chasing and yearn for prefect communication cause a lot of troubles in communication,which are carefully talked in Speaking into the air.There are four main troubles in communication,including technology,otherness,understanding and the last one,which is emphasized in the dissertation,troubles when people face to the previous ones.Humans are eager about communication technologies but always can't control them well,they are tangled that the other is true existence or just self-projection,all understandings are misunderstanding in reality,and human can make improper recognitions and responses to these troubles.Peters is a optimistic pessimist on communication.He believes that people find troubles of communication when they're communicating,and we can find ways out these troubles if we reflect on them.The ways designed by Peters are a series of connected actions,they are squeezing in hands,love each other,body present and coordinate behaviors.I think these ways are full of ethical meaning but there remains some questions to discuss,for instance,squeezing in hands is easily being intrigued without heart to heart,and can be in low levels.For the last part I talked about the contribution and enlightenments of Speaking into the air.Peters gets into the field of communication philosophy and becomes a representative person in the history of the ideas of communication since that he explores the impossibility of communication.People paid much for troubled communication,Peters'work showed us the complexity and hardship of communication,which tells us human should recognize ourselves and develop a forgiving attitude on communication rather than being conceit.
