Although the concept of institutional repository has been proposed for more than two decades,it's initial development originated from the Budapest Open Access Initiative launched in 2001.In the early pahses,the development of institutional repository has experienced a long period of slowness.The limitations of institutional repository functions,poor interaction and user experience have been bottlenecks that have hindered the success and sustainable development of institutional repository.Therefore,institutional repository faces the challenge of transformation,and some academic institutions and researchers actively explore new models for institutional repository.With the increasingly growing demands for displine assessment and planning,research performance evaluation,value-added services for research management departments have gradually become innovative services of institutional repository.The integration of institutional repository with research information management system has aroused widespread concerns among managers of institutional repository and researchers in recent years,but related researches and practices in domestic are still at the initial stage.Based on the above background,this study aimed to rethink the transformation of institutional repository from the perspective of research ecosystem and design an institutional repository system for the research ecosystem.Literature analysis,case study,knowledge mapping and comparative analysis were used to analyze the research status of institutional repository at home and abroad,and to design an institutional repository system.Finally,based on the CERIF data model,institutional repository data model was constructed,a system architecture of institutional repository for research ecosystem was proposed,and a case study was conducted to test the usability of the system.The main contributions of this study were showed as follows:(1)a conceptual framework of university research ecosystem was developed.On the basis of exsiting study on research ecosystem,this paper analyzed the key entities in the university research ecosystem,and proposed a conceptual framework for university research ecosystem.(2)The CERIF data model is used to build the data model of institutional repository,and to achieve accurate associations among institutions,scholars,achievements,projects,evaluation indicators,and other entities.(3)An institutional repository system for research ecosystem was designed.The system mainly focused on the usability of the system,the precise correlation between research entities,the refined statistical and visual analysis of data,the widely dissemination of research outputs,and the data services for research ecosystems.There were sitll some limitaions of this study:?The functions of institutional repository in terms of the construction of scholar portraits,personalized services,intelligent analysis of data,and usage statistics have yet to be further improved and optimized.? Qualitative methods were mainliy used in this study,but empirical research is not enough.Therefore,usability of the institutional repository remains to be further empirically tested from the perspectives of researchers and users in the future.?The factors that affect the success and sustainable development of institutional repository are diversified,but this study just focused on the construction of institutional repository system for research ecosystem.whether institutional repository designed in this study has the capacity for sustainable development,whether it can promote dissemination of the research outputs,increase citations of research outputs,and improve the international rankings are still to be further tested in practice.Therefore,user awareness and usability evaluation of institutional repository will be an important aspects of further study.
