A Study On Uncited Academic Achievements

An uncited paper refers to a paper that has not been cited or rarely cited by other papers for some time after publication.Uncited papers have always existed in the scientific community.Generally speaking,this kind of "zero-concern" paper has been ignored for a long time.However,with the proposing of long tail theory,researchers have begun to pay attention to such papers.Garfield concludes that the reason for the uncited papers is that,apart from being mundane or low-quality,there may be papers that are not widely cited because it's too advanced.By plotting the distribution of citation curves,Raan found a special variety of uncited papers that they were not cited by other papers for a long period of time after publication,but their citation suddenly increased rapidly many years later.He called this phenomenon "sleeping beauty." The"Sleeping Beauty" shows that there is a certain kind of research that is of great value but because it has novelty and advance,it was not understood by peers at the time of publication.As a fact that the National Social Science Fund(NSSF)is the highest grade of the research project of humanities and social sciences in China,it represents the most pioneering level of social science research.Therefore,author believes that studying the uncited paper from projects in the National Social Science Fund can not only improve the management efficiency of the project,but also understand the utilization of the project achievements and the distribution of the topics from different dimension,furthermore,discover potential "sleeping beauty",manage to grasp the future development trend of China's scientific research.It is of great practical significance and scientific value to explore the phenomenon of "sleeping beauty" in the national funded project paper.From the database of the National Social Science Fund Project,this article has obtained the project data of all library information science and philology from 1991 to 2014,and has captured the academic achievements from the databases of CNKI and the VIP Journals.Citation of those papers was obtained in the CNKI's Chinese Citation Database.In the analysis of the results of the uncited papers of the NSSF,this paper starts from two levels.Firstly,at the level of thesis,this thesis examined the type and starting date of the projects where the papers belonged,and.Papers' publication time and the project approval time interval,to analyze the fund project in the project to project acceptance of this series of management processes on the project results.Based on the uncited papers'title and keywords' word frequency statistics,this thesis try to circle the uncited paper's research object and research content.By using co-occurrence analysis,uncited papers' flashpoint is able to be found out.Therefore,it's capable of identifying potential "sleeping beauty" papers and topics that is of great research value.Secondly,from project level,this paper focus on the projects that is called in this paper uncited project,by which all the papers sponsored are not cited at all.This thesis gathers statistics of the type of project and the projects' approval date.In addition,by summarize the areas and research themes of the uncited projects,this thesis manage to analyze the relationship between the guidance and selection of NSSF project and their academic achievements.Also,whether the theme or the research object of the uncitied paper and the projects are tallied is tested..
