Research On Document Identification Of "Sleeping Beauty" In The Field Of Library And Information Science

With the rapid changes in scientific communication and propagation mode,the scientific literature on academic research in various subject areas has shown a spurt of growth.How to evaluate the value and influence of academic research more scientifically has always been a problem that has plagued many scholars.How to extract the papers with great value from the massive literature quickly and effectively has become an urgent and arduous task.The sleeping beauty literature,which reflects the citation characteristics and historical process of the literature over time,and can quantitatively describe the advance or transformative research in the subject area from the perspective of bibliometrics.Advance research refers to research that transcends existing research paradigms and can not be linked to existing scientific knowledge through a series of simple logical steps.Since the scholars have not yet unearthed the great value,its existence is often neglected.Transformative research refers to the study that overturns the existing research paradigm and conflicts with the dominant paradigm in scientific research.Due to the traditional made of thinking of the researcheres,its existence is often resisted.The appearance of advanced or transformative research is the formation of the sleeping beauty literature.There is no denying that the neglected or resisted research often contains major scientific discoveries.Therefore,the study of the identification method of sleeping beauty literature is of great significance for the expansion of scientific evaluation system,the discovery of advanced or transformative research and the shortening of the recognition time lag of major scientific discoveries.Based on the previous studies,this paper proposes an effective method for sleeping beauty literature identification.The main research is divided into the following parts:(1)An overview of the sleeping beauty literature identification method.To compare and summarize the existing literature recognition methods of sleeping beauty,analyze the advantages and disadvantages of existing identification methods,and lay the foundation for the new method.(2)A sleeping beauty literature identification method based on quadratic function curve fitting was proposed.Using the batch curve fitting function of Origin software,the literatures in the field of library science&information science published from 1998 to 2002 were selected as the basic data for empirical test.Through the comparative analysis of citation curve and SC,WC,LC etc.indicators,it is found that compared to K index identification method,the proposed method can better reflect the characteristics of sleeping beauty literature,and provide a new ideafor the recognition of sleeping beauty literature.The method enriches and expands the literature identification method for sleeping beauty.Through the analysis of the four sleeping beauty literatures it can be found that sleeping beauty literature usually published in authoritative and multidisciplinary journals.The sleeping beauty research is mainly about new terms,new behaviors in network communication,new methods,and recommendations and analysis of new programs.(3)Based on the concept of derivative in differential scholastics,this paper proposes a method to identify sleeping literature by using the derivative of citation.The papers published in the field of WOS "information science & library science" from 1998 to 2002 were selected as the research objects.The differential function of Origin software was used to calculate the citation derivatives and identify the sleeping beauty literature.By comparing and analyzing the citation curves and indicators of the index rate of the existing sleeping beauty recognition methods,it is found that the this method has better recognition effect on the sleeping beauty literature with high influence,deep sleep and strong awakening intensity.Through the analysis of source journals and content for sleeping literature it is found that most of sleeping beauty literature belong to the core journals,which are prone to receive the papers that can change the traditional paradigm and have the transformative research.The sleeping beauty literature in the field of library and information science identified by this method mainly contains: computer-related technical research literature and social application literature are closely related to its development.Compared to the recognition methods of the sleeping beauty literature based on the quadratic function curve fitting and the citation curve derivative proposed in this research,it is found that the two methods have different emphasis on the calculation and recognition effects,and should be comprehensively analyzed in practical applications.
