A Translation Report On The Translation Of Construction And Engineering Text

With the “belt and road” initiative gaining momentum in the international community,China's construction enterprises are expanding their own pace of going out with their advanced technology and global network to help more countries in Asia and Africa with various infrastructure constructions.As the trend arises,the translation activities in the field of construction and engineering between China and other countries are increasing.The translation report is based on the “Wastewater Treatment Plant Performance Specifications” received by the translator during his internship in Qingjian International Group Co.,Ltd.,including four parts,description of the translation task,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.In the process of translation practice,the author first makes sure that the text is an informative text in the science and technology fields,and analyzes its features of word and sentence to find that the text contains a large number of professional terms about construction and water plant facilities,and uses a large amount of complex sentences and passive-voice sentences.Two problems are concluded by the translator: one is the translation of uncommon and difficult terms in construction and engineering text;the other is the translation and expression of long and difficult sentences in the text.The practice report uses the form of case analysis.First,from the fidelity rule,it discusses the faithfulness and translation methods of words in construction engineering texts.In addition to traditional methods such as free translation and graphic translation,the author summarizes his own translation practice,explores some new translation methods such as search and research under the Internet environment,and discusses the importance of correct choice of word meaning.Then,from the skopos rule,it discusses how to choose the right translation method according to different sentence structures.Finally,based on the coherence rule,from the perspective of Chinese expression and article coherence,it analyzes the problems encountered in translation,and puts forward the ways to maintain the consistency of reference and terminology.According to the three rules of Skopos Theory of German linguist Vermeer and the characteristics of construction and engineering texts,the author tries to guide and ensure the accuracy and rationality of translation practice.The report analyzes and summarizes the problems encountered by the author in translating construction and engineering texts,strengthens the author's cognition of relevant industries and the study of translation theories and methods,accumulates valuable experiences for the author's future study and translation,and provides certain references for the translation of the same type of texts.
